Cobblestone Hill

 <itunes:author>Roywilliam & Dean</itunes:author>

Roywilliam & Dean first began performing together back in High School. Influenced by a wide range of artists from The Beatles & Stones to The Allmans Brothers and Eric Clapton to Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin, they have developed a style of music they call "Suburban Acoustic". With Dean’s unique style of playing (on his shiny new steel guitar) and the powerful voice of Roywilliam, the duo treated the crowd at Napper Tandy's with some great original tunes. Not big fans of overly produced music the duo asked me to post the raw recoding as it came out of the mixing board Tuesday night and not to remix the tune in any way; and so I did. They said they will be back, but for now, please enjoy Roywilliam & Dean performing "Cobblestone Hill"

Live Karl (Karl Blessing) was back at Napper Tandy's the other night performing a great selection of copy tunes from his solo act along with several of his original songs. This tune along with the first song published on this podcast by "Live Karl" can be considered "unplugged" versions as most of Karl's tunes have been been written with a band in mind; which we are looking forward to hearing in the near future. Unplugged or "Plugged In" Karl does a great job performing "Humanity" at Open Mic USA.

 <itunes:author>The Souvenir</itunes:author>

The Souvenir came back to Open Mic USA and put on another show for us at Napper Tandy's and what a great show it was. This is one rockin four piece band. There are a lot of good rock bands on Long Island but they are usually playing some one else's tunes. The Souvenir write their own music and perform every song like it was the last day on earth. The words "every ounce of energy, you try to give away" from the Bob Seger tune "Turn The Page" best describes this bands attitude. If your a rock n roll fan, this is a "must see" band. See their Myspace Page for there schedule. (myspace.com/thesouvenirband)

I first met Karl Blessing (Live Karl) at an old open mic I used to host in Patchague, Long Island about 6 years ago. We've kept in contact ever since and when I started Open Mic USA a little over a year ago, he was one of the first people to perform. Working a regular day job and playing at night as a solo act and also performing with his band, Karl has found it a little difficult to get down to Napper Tandy's for open mic. Luckily for us he found some time last Tuesday night and performed several of his original tunes for us; and what a great job he did!

A little more head banging Tuesday night with Open Mic USA's first hard core metal band. First formed in 1995 as, in their words, "the alternative to the alternative", Korotory has been rockin' the area for over 14 years now. Having shared the stage with Metal giants such as Death, Nevermore, Iced Earth, Hammerfall, Bloodclot, M.O.D. and Suicide City, and performing several shows a month, and beginning work on a new CD, I was glad they found a little time to put on a show for us at Napper Tandy's.
As of Feb 28th 2009 they have signed with Last Resort Records and released their debut album "Age of Rebellion." GOOD LUCK GUYS!
Hoping to see them back, Open Mic USA presents Korotory performing "A.P.M."

PS. For more information about Korotory, Please visit their Mysapce page at "myspace.com/korotory"

(Please note, as is the nature of this genre of music, this band was very loud and a little difficult to record on such a small stage. In my opinion this recording does not capture the the true sound of this band.
Wow! What a fun band this is; a true favorite at Open Mic USA. Invited down once again for a birthday bash, Radio Drama had them moshing in the isles, which made me a little nervous with 15 grand worth of recording equipment on and off stage, but sensing my apprehension the moshers kept it down to a small mush; thanks guys.
With their new guitar player Jamie Gates the band banged out one great original after another and sounding tighter than ever; and they should considering they are playing all over Long Island and Manhattan. (see their myspace link below for their schedule)
This recording really shows the fun nature of the band as you hear them drag the birthday girl Dara on stage to sing the last chorus. They are a show to see!!!
Once again Open Mic USA presents Radio Drama performing "My Mixtape".

One of the first people to have a song published on this podcast back in April 2008, John Paciulli came back to do a few more of his original tunes the other night. John was batting 5th that night at a time when everybody had decided to go get a drink or step outside for a breath of fresh, smokey air; ... a "seventh inning stretch" so to speak. Being the true professional he is and making light of the situation, John played on. I'm glad he did because he performed this tune in which he co-rote with Parisa Mantazaran. Playing it live for the first time and having only written it a few day ago he did a great job composing and performing the music behind the imaginative lyrics of Parisa Mantazaran. I can't wait to hear more from this writing team!
Looking forward to his next performance, Open Mic USA presents John Paciulli performing "FISH".

 <itunes:author>Modus</itunes:author>

Modus is back, but this time with a new guitar player. With only a short time to get their new act together, Don Lee, Mike McCarthy and Tom Abbene are sounding tighter than ever. Always a favorite at Open Mic USA, Modus used this tune to show off their new guitar player Chris Randazzo.
Still getting acquainted with the song, Chis fishes around a little in the begging, adding a few chords here and a couple a licks there, mainly listening and trying to catch the groove. It doesn't take to long for him to see the light and by mid song there's no stopping him. Just as the song sound like it coming to an end, the band switches gears and breaks into a wild jam; that's when Chris shows us what he's got. He is a great addition to the group and I'm looking forward to their next performance.
Once again Open Mic USA gives you a much improved "Modus" performing "Satellite Suitcase"

According to Modus, "nothing is set in stone, and nothing is out of bounds as we attempt to push the envelope with our experimental, unique brand of rock." Well, I'm glad they came down to experiment.

New to my open mic, David Socci and his partner Scott Segal (doing a great job on congas by the way), were disguised as spectators the whole night, sitting at the bar, enjoying the tunes (and the 2-fers on Buffalo wings). David came up to me as the last act was going on stage and asked if he could go on next. I have not had any poets or comedians perform at Open Mic USA to date, so I was happy he had asked. Gaining control of the crowd from the start, Duo-P quickly had the people in the palm of their hands.
GREAT JOB GUYS!!!

Johnny's Blues

 <itunes:author>George Campbell</itunes:author>

I met George Campbell for the first when he walked into an open mic I was running in an other venue about five years ago. He was a friend of one of the managers of the restaurant and he stopped in one night with his twelve string in hand. I had just started that particular open mic and I only had a few performers there that night; I was glad he stopped in. He returned the following week and continued coming almost every week for three years. (Thanks George)
Now two years later, continuing his tradition of weekly performances, Open Mic USA is proud to present George Campbell.
If you like this one then check out One For The Road and Real Good Friends also featured on this podcast.

Railroad Town

 <itunes:author>Peter Tassone</itunes:author>

I met Peter Tassone for the first when he walked into an open mic I was running in an other venue a few years ago. He put his name on the list, order a beer and sat quietly on the side of the room listening to the other musicians perform. It was finally his turn on stage and as usual the volume of the crowd picked up as I made the transition from one act to an other and by the time Peter was ready to start, not to many people were paying attention. That all change the second peter opened his mouth to sing. I am pleased to present Peter Tassone as the first podcast from Open Mic USA.
PS
If you like this song you will love his art work. Both reflect his lifelong interest in railroads, especially during the steam era.
